Care
1. Check the Care Label:
Always check the care instructions on the garment or fabric label. Most scuba fabric items (especially ready-made garments) will have specific washing instructions from the manufacturer.
2. Hand Wash (Recommended):
Fill a Basin with Cool Water: Use cool water (ideally cold) to avoid damaging the fabric's elasticity and color.
Use Mild Detergent: Choose a gentle detergent to prevent harsh chemicals from breaking down the fabric.
Gently Agitate: Swish the fabric gently in the water, avoiding scrubbing or wringing it out. Be careful not to stretch the material.
Rinse Thoroughly: Rinse the fabric in cold water to remove all detergent.
3. Machine Wash (If Hand Washing Isn't Possible):
Use a Gentle Cycle: If you must machine wash, use the delicate or gentle cycle to reduce friction that could harm the fabric.
Place in a Mesh Bag: To protect the fabric from damage, put the scuba garment into a mesh laundry bag to prevent snagging.
Cold Water: Always wash scuba fabric in cold water to prevent it from losing its shape and elasticity.
Use Mild Detergent: As with hand washing, a gentle detergent is recommended.
4. Avoid Fabric Softener:
Scuba fabric tends to lose its natural stretch and smooth finish if exposed to fabric softeners. It's best to avoid them.
5. Drying:
Air Dry: Lay the fabric flat to air dry or hang it on a padded hanger. Avoid wringing out the fabric, as this can distort its shape.
Avoid the Dryer: High heat from a dryer can damage scuba fabric by causing it to lose its shape or elasticity, so it’s best to air dry.
6. Ironing (If Needed):
Low Heat: If ironing is necessary (to remove wrinkles), use a low heat setting and always place a cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid direct contact with the material.
